The Community Of Sugarmill Woods Is
Unique & Wonderful!
Our Sugarmill Woods Challenge:
Is there a more natural setting anywhere?
Since you are computer savvy, take a birds-eye view of our community and see all the trees and cul-de-sacs that make our homesites so unique.
The ultimate in privacy is assured with each home backing up to a natural preserve or golf course. This "greenbelt" concept is inique to this village. Land use is warranted in deed covenant, which assures preservation of about 30% of the 6000 acres. Lots average 100 x 120 feet deep (12,000 square feet). The 8000 lots have city water and sewer service already in place. Homes are custom built to a buyer's specific needs on individually purchased sites. You will not find street of "cookie-cutter" homes built one on top of the other. You can still drive through our winding lanes and find plenty of treed sites next to existing residences. Over 1.2 million trees were planted in the '70's giving the community a truly North Woods feel right here near the gulf coast in central Florida.
Optional Amenities: Two Championship golf courses in Sugarmill Woods offer 45 holes of golf. What most members enjoy most about our beautiful courses is that homes are set back from the out of bounds stakes; lots of trees, some water holes and with the sand base, the courses drain quickly allowing continuous play even after heavy rains. No'cart path only' signs here. Best of all you can find open times daily without reservations for when your guests arrive and want to play right now. No 'gators either.
For the tennis lovers: there are 8 tennis courts with some lighted at night. Our recreation center has health center with exercise equipment next to an outdoor junior Olympic sized pool. Racket ball court and bocce ball also attract some neighbors.
Nearby: For the fisherman: the Homosassa River which is spring fed (6 million gallons of water an hour) from the Homosassa Springs located in the Wild Life Park. You can drive 20 minutes from Sugarmill Woods to a marina and be on your way to the Gulf of Mexico. Or a 6 minutes drive to the Chassahowitzka River where you can rent a canoe ad feel like you've stepped back in time and are in Ol' Florida where you see more fish, birds, butterflies and flowering wild flowers on every turn in this meandering river to the Gulf. Try a side adventure to glide down a narrow channel thru the reeds on clear spring water with quiet all around. Gators are rare here; but you'll see otter and maybe a manatee.
Manatee Viewing: About 5 miles away, visitors can see West Indian manatees every day of the year from Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park underwater observatory.
